SYNOPSIS
The present, in June
Miranda's Cafe, a neighborhood coffee shop
20 minutes
Valentina - A recently graduated, determined, and chronically optomistic young woman seems to have it all figured out. However, her positivity may be a mask to hide the uncertainty she feels about her career and life’s path.
Estefania - A woman who has also just graduated with a degree in biochemical engineering. She hones her analytical STEM brain to balance out Valentina’s bubbliness, but may be secretly admirable of her approach to life and open-minded disposition.
Barista and Customers 1, 2, and 3 - All to be played by the same person. Involves a comedic amount of physical acting and quick changes.
Inspired by Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett, two childhood friends reunite in their favorite hometown cafe waiting for their coffee order that never comes. The play opens in present day June of your everyday American neighborhood coffee shop, Miranda’s Cafe, where the shop is all but empty except for our hardworking, but content Barista. Estefania and Valentina make their way into their hometown’s place-to-be, having just returned after graduating from their respective universities to catch up after the years. Hoping the answer to their life-questioning pursuits lies in each other's company and in their coffee orders.
