CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

SYNOPSIS
Early Fall 2021
Zoom
20 Minutes
Artie (They/ Them): The mediator of the friend group—always in search of peace and compromise. Not particularly socially adept. They had a falling out with Charlie and Rasheen just before the total shutdown began, due to an incident revealing Rasheens disbelief in the paranormal (Artie's hyperfixation). They didn’t have time to create any strong new friendships—they are lonely as a result of this. (14 years old as of today).

Charlie (He/ Any): A loyal friend, but anxious and stubbornly looking for validation in his belief in ghosts. Lost his mother three years prior to the events of the play, but has not told this to his friends. Took to ghost-hunting as a way to cope with the loss. (13 years old).

Rasheen "Sheen" (He/ him): A punk rock “too cool for you” eighth grader, who’s actually insecure on the inside. He grew out of touch with Charlie and Artie in order to try to assimilate with a “cooler” social group, but might be regretting it. (14 years old).

Jenny (She/ her): Charlie’s mother who passed away three years prior to the events of the play. She’s been watching the “ghost busting” the kids have been doing since she passed and has been listening in on their séance happening during the play. She deeply misses Charlie and is disappointed by the bickering that has separatedhim from his friends. Also played by the actor playing Artie.
The play takes place over a zoom call, with each of the three main characters in their respective basements. It is early fall of 2021—the beginning of their eighth grade school year—and they have not seen each other for five months. Because COVID had only gotten much worse since the outbreak, the government mandated a national stay-at-home shut down five months ago. Since then, everyone rarely leaves their house just to get essentials, and because of that, human connection is hard to come by and loneliness is unprecedented.
